MARTEN
DREWES
personal
Marten Drewes (1996) grew up in a small town near Groningen. In this town called Roden he has spent most of his childhood. After a few years of living in the United States of America (2000-2002) Marten came back to Roden. From a young age Marten was interested in creating things. He always had motivation to create. The process of making something and being able to look at the result is very satisfying for him. This fascination for creating had its ups-and-downs, but really started to blossom when he got a more mature view on life. Certain events in his life helped him grow up quickly. When Marten was confronted with difficult situations he found himself ending up creating again. Knowing the art academy should be his next destination after highschool, he started to take his passion more seriously.
Marten wants to create a temporary disconnection between people and the outside world. The world that is moving so quickly and can be very hectic. Zoning out and clearing your head are elements in life that should not be underestamated. While Marten attempts to get an empty head while making his works, he also wants to create an opportunity for viewers to empty their heads as well. He believes that this is a thing that is essential for living in this day and age. The distractions in life can be seen as an antipole of being alone. These poles form a source of inspiration for Marten.
